Fort Mohave

Fort Mohave is an unincorporated community and census-designated place located in Mohave County, Arizona, United States. It is named after a nearby fort that was used during the Mohave War. The area has a rich history, with Spanish explorer Melchor Díaz being the first known European to visit in 1540. The native Mohave people referred to themselves as the “Pipa Aha Macav,” meaning “People by the River.” The Spanish name “Mojave” evolved from this, later adopted into English as “Mohave.” During the Mohave War, the fort served as a U.S. Army base against the native Mohave population. Today, Fort Mohave is a growing suburb of Bullhead City and the most populous unincorporated community in Mohave County.  Fort Mohave offers natural beauty and recreational opportunities. The Big Bend of the Colorado State Recreation Area is a popular spot for outdoor enthusiasts, featuring parks and fishing areas. Boundary Cone, known for hiking and viewpoints, provides stunning vistas of the surrounding landscape.
